Through the chapters, i found out interesting research by David in chapter 5, the title was “Thinking Outside Experience” . This chapter explain about how we should ignore inside view and thinking outside the box. Inside view according to Daniel Kahneman was ability to view the situation based on our expertise, such as: scientist create COVID-19 vaccines through mixing and testing various chemical components to produce effective vaccine, or accounting solves financial report challenge through fixed formula that she usually used. While this approach was good, it has a flaw. Nowadays, daily problems are so complex that they require extra effort to solve. We need to think outside the box to solve these problems.

David's research revealed that people tend to make more accurate predictions about the future when they take an outside view, rather than relying solely on their own experiences and knowledge. This means looking at similar projects or situations and analyzing their outcomes, rather than just assuming that your own experience will be the same. By adopting an outside view, we can make better decisions and avoid common pitfalls.

The "outside view" involves looking at similar projects or situations and analyzing their outcomes, rather than just assuming that your own experience will be the same. David's research suggests that taking an outside view can lead to more accurate predictions about the future.

How we can implement this in design process

As designers, we are expected to think both creatively and logically because we face various problems in various projects. Sometimes we have projects for which the solution is still abstract. We can use this view to help generate solutions and enrich our thinking. For example:

One more way to implement this outside view in the design process is to gather feedback from users outside our products (but still in similar sectors or services) and analyze the user experience via concept testing or usability testing. This can help designers gain deeper insights about their solution by identifying pain points and areas for improvement, and can lead to a more user-friendly and effective design. By adopting an outside perspective, designers can expand their creativity and problem-solving abilities, resulting in more innovative and successful projects.

By adopting an outside view, we can break free from our own biases and limitations, and open ourselves up to new possibilities. As designers, this can lead to more innovative and effective solutions that better meet the needs of our users. So let's embrace the outside view and use it to our advantage in our design process!
